Charles E. Geschwend, 85, of Glen Carbon, Ill., died at 9:35 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon. He was born July 12, 1926, in Collinsville, Ill., son of the late Albert and Katherine (Eckstein) Geschwend.
He married Janet M. Hanft on Feb. 20, 1965, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edwardsville. She survives.
Charles was a retired farmer and postal worker. He was a member of American Legion Post 199 in Edwardsville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, having served in the South Pacific and one year in the occupation of Japan.
In additon to his wife, he is survived by a son, George (Nicole) Geschwend of Seattle, Wash.; and a niece, Susan Cox, of Glen Carbon; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Geschwend of Glen Carbon; a great-nephew, Kurt Geschwend of Alhambra; and a great-niece, Kristen Geschwend of Staunton.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Geschwend of Edwardsville.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20 at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Edwardsville. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21 at the funeral home with Fr. Bill Kessler officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
Memorials may be given to Disabled American Veterans.
