Shirley Elaine Shupe Roder was called to her heavenly home on December 29, when she passed away at the Golden Living Center in Neligh after a long battle with cancer. Her life began on March 18, 1936 in Tilden where she was born to Boyd and Marjorie (Taylor) Shupe. She was the youngest of five children and attended Tilden Public Schools until her marriage on March 10, 1951 to Donald G. Roder at the Madison County Courthouse. They later became the parents of five children.
Shirley was a hard worker and held many jobs, mostly in the food service industry, operating Shirley's Cafe in Tilden and later in Neligh. Many people have enjoyed her delicious meals and pies over the years. She was also a long time member of the Neligh United Methodist Church.
Surivors include her five children and their spouses, Michael and Sandra Roder of Omaha, Donna and Duane Pierce of Madison, SD, Chris and Gary Main of Kearney, Sandy and Curt Calder of Randolph, and David and T.J. Roder of Twinsburg, OH. She also leaves 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren to hold her memory dear. She was preceded in death by both parents, her brother, Boyd Jr. (Sonny), a sister, Marjean, and a grandson, Garrett.
Shirley was an excellent example to all who knew her of what it meant to work hard, laugh heartily, love completely, and live faithfully.
