Much too young to say goodbye
and as each new year comes around I still wounder why.
It was way too soon for her life had just begun
A mother taken away from her 18 month old son.
It may have been all of their choices to go
But she should have had sense to tell the driver "No!"
Young kids out to celebrate a New Year
They didn't get to see 1997 thanks to too much beer.
Her life was gone in a blink of an eye
It was too soon to say goodbye.
You're in a lot of hearts still in so many ways
We will remember you for all of our days.
Its not goodbye and not the end...
Just that we'll see you later my friend.
Leigh was taken from our lives 11:42 pm New Years Eve(12/31/1996) by a drinking and driving car accident in Joplin, Missouri. She was too young to be in that bar and was not made to show ID at all. She was only a passenger but all three people had way too much alcohol in their system to be in that car that night. No one at that bar tried to stop them or call a cab if only someone would have had sense not to let them leave so drunk. Learn from our pain and please don't reach for the keys the next time you are out drinking because this beautiful woman's death could have been prevented with just a little sense or someone else to tell them not to drive.
