Curtis W. Bradley, age 89, lifelong resident of the Ridgway area, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, surrounded by his family, in the Fountainview Nursing Home.
Curtis was born on the family farm on Jan. 20, 1919, to William L. and Esta (Rister) Bradley.
On April 9, 1938, he married the love of his life, Carolyn West.
Curtis was a lifelong farmer and was very involved in his church, community and family. He loved the Lord and loved music and was an accomplished singer. He served his church as minister of music and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a member of the Ridgway First Baptist Church, Gallatin County Farm Bureau, 50-plus year member and past master of the Ridgway Masonic Lodge and a member of the Eastern Star. He had served as district representative on the Illinois Corn Marketing Board and as a director of the U.S. Grains Council. He was a past director and past chairman of the Illinois Health Improvement Association, former director of the Illinois Blue Cross/Blue Shield Board, former Ridgway Township trustee, former member of the Southeastern Illinois College Foundation board of directors and a former board member of Banterra Bancorp.
He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Carolyn; two daughters, Sue Dillard (Gary) of Bowling Green, Ky., Alice Myers (Max) of Franklin, Ind.; and a son, Bill Bradley (Phyllis) of Omaha. There are four grandchildren, Michele Boling (Mark), Brad Dillard (Jennifer), Curt Bradley (Bruce), and Carl Bradley (Christine); and eight great-grandchildren, Bradley and Christopher Boling, Sam and Benjamin Dillard, David and Amanda Bradley, Curtis Lee and Clara Bradley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Roberta and Al Moye and Versa and Dick Heinke.
The funeral was held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway with the Rev. Rob Gallion and the Rev. Dennis Buttery officiating. Interment will be in the Jackson Cemetery in Ridgway. Visitation was held at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at the Cox Funeral Home in Ridgway with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ridgway First Baptist Church or the Jackson Cemetery Association.
