Henry Ray Boatman was born in St. Clair Co., Mo. 2 Jan 1837...His father James Boatman later bought a homestead in Polk Co. Mo. where they lived in 1840..He was in the Taney Co. Mo. 1850 Census...When he married Mahala Wood in Houston, Texas Co. Mo.
Henry Ray enlisted in Union Army Co. K-63rd Regiment of Missouri Volunteers on 10 Sep 1864 and was discharged 2 Dec 1864...Length of service 2 months and 23 days.
Henry was 5 ft. 9 inches tall, of light color with blue eyes and light hair..Occupation, Farmer.
Henry Ray purchased several tracts of United States land and also homesteaded a section in Howell Co. Mo. After his wife died 5 Sep 1836, he and his oldest daughter Polly moved to Webb, Dewey Co. Oklahoma in 1905.
Henry Ray died 1 April 1922 of age related illness, and was buried in the Riverview Cemetery which is located about ten miles south and east of Camargo and near the South Canadian River.. He was a member of the West Plains, Mo, Masonic Lodge No. 327 A.F.& A.M. and had a Masonic funeral, in which Irvin Boatman son of his first cousin John Wesley participated..
A step-granddaughter wrote in his history, that she remembered him as Uncle Henry..He would walk from where he lived to Camargo (10 miles) at the age of 75, and if someone stopped to pick him up, he would say "No, I need a little exercise" He was a "fine old Man"
