John Luick, aged 80 years died April 8th, 1913, at the residence of Col. A.H. Suplee, Betterton. He was born in Wurttenberg, Germany, Waldor County, September 16, 1832. Mr. Luick came to America on a sailing ship when he was twenty-four years of age. He worked on a farm in Germany and plowed at a contest at which he received a medal for the best work from the Emperor of Germany who was the judge of the contest. The young people of Germany at that time were taught farming and were awarded for merit. Mr. Luike was an expert trucker and very industrious.
He made his home with Col. and Mrs. A.H. Suplee at Better for a number of years, Mrs. Suplee being his daughter. He was a man of retiring disposition, and attended strictly to his own business giving all of his time to the cultivation of truck at Col. Suplee's, Idlewhile Park, at Betterton.
