Daniel Leonidas Baldwin was a son of Cleopatra Henley (1824-1907) and her third husband George W. Baldwin, who were married in Randolph County, North Carolina in 1864. Mrs. Baldwin had previously been married to William Field (c.1820-1852) in 1845, and to Green B. Lamb (c.1820-1859) in 1858. Daniel had five half brothers: Julius Eugene Field (c.1847-after 1880), Stephen Augustus Field (c.1848/9-after 1882), Rev. Melville Chafin Field (1851-1919), William A. Field (1852-after 1930) and Charles B. Lamb (1859-?).
In 1880, Cleopatra and Daniel, and her son Stephen A. Field, were living at Parsons Creek, Linn County, Missouri. Stephen had come to study law in Missouri in 1869, and became the city attorney of Meadeville, Linn Co., Mo. in 1878. He'd been a deputy sheriff of Livingston Co., Mo. in 1873-5, and his mother and half brother Daniel probably lived there with him, too.
On 19 Sept. 1899, Daniel Leonidas Baldwin married Estella Pearl Willis (1876-1920) in Danvers, McLean Co., Illinois. She was a daughter of Rev. Rev. James Vincent Willis (1846- 1930) and his wife Helen Maria Wadleigh (1845-1909). Reverend Willis was a Congregational minister and he and his family moved from place to place as he served different churches, many of them in small towns in Missouri.
Daniel and Estella made their home with his mother in Polo, Caldwell Co., Missouri in 1900. In 1910, they were living in Smith, Laclede Co., Missouri, and in 1920, in Auglaize, Camden Co. Missouri. Estella died in Fort Scott, Kansas in 1920, and Daniel died in Lebanon, Laclede Co., Missouri in 1934.
Daniel Baldwin and Estella Willis had five children:
1. Lelia Pearl Baldwin (1900-1980) m. Herbert Phillip Heyde, 2nd m. John George Haulenbeek.
2. Clifford Willis Baldwin (1903-1973) m. Vera Orpha Sharp (1915 - 1960)
3. Margaret Irene Baldwin (1905-1966)
4. William Roosevelt Baldwin (1906-1980) m Helen Marie Denny (1910-2000).
5. Edna May Baldwin (1909-1998) m. Sherry Franklin Williams (1910-1991).
