A loving and hard working, Father and Grandfather. He was preceded in death by two children, Martha Jane and Frank and his wonderful wife of over 55 years, Sylvia, and 1 Great Grandson, Garrett.
My Grandpa grew up very poor and worked very hard for every dollar that he had.
I remember one bit of income that he had was farming. In particular, besides raising a garden every year he raised cows and pigs. The land that he raised the pigs on was right across the road from my house. Grandpa and Granny lived a few miles from there.
In the summertime, the air was stagnant and the pigpen would smell horrible and the odor just seem to hang in the air. When you would go outside that odor is all that you could smell. As a teenager, I would get embarrassed to have friends over and I would call him to complain. In my Grandpa's typical fashion he would say, "Girl, that's not stink that you smell....that's money!"
I guess that he was right...but it still stunk!
I miss him so much and I miss his pig pen, garden, ice cream money, double mint chewing gum and flea marketing too. Thank God that I still have my sweet, sweet memories of my Grandparents. I look back at my childhood and I am so thankful that I was blessed so much.
When Grandpa died he didn't leave much riches in the typical sense...but what he meant to me was of far greater value...he was priceless and so are my memories.
