Son of the late Joe and Theresa (Ripp) Barman of Waunakee.
On June 3, 1953, he married Mary Maier at St. Francis Church where they continued to be faithful members. He loved and was always proud of his large family and was happy when any of them dropped in. He was a great provider and always wondered if they had had something to eat. Joe was first and foremost a farmer and they farmed their entire married life in the Cross Plains/Black Earth area until their retirement in 1994. He was an avid gardener and provided family and neighbors with fruits and vegetables. Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Barman; eight children, Dan (Mary) of Middleton, Mike (Cathy), John (Cheryl), Paul (Denise), all of Cross Plains, Mark (Monica), Joe Jr. (Karen), Bill (Janell) and Mary Ann (Pat) Troge, all of Black Earth; 24 grandchildren, Melissa, Brad, Adam, Laurie, Andrea, Christina, Stephanie(Andy), Holly, Jessica, Darci, Adrienne, Kendra, Austin, Ashley, Jeramie, Victoria, Nicole, Jared, Tyler and Kristen (all Barmans)and Matthew, Christopher, Kaitlyn and McKenzie Troge; a brother, Alfred Barman of Waunakee; two sisters, Rosemary (Vic) Statz of Loganville and Joann (Pat) Statz of Waunakee; in-laws, Ben and Eleanor Maier of Dane, Joe and Ruth Maier of Cross Plains, Bertha Spahn of Waunakee, Frances Dyer of Madison and Sister Lenora Maier of Rockford; a sister-in-law, Rose Ann Maier of Waunakee and a brother-in-law, John Lutz of Marshall and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Theresa Barman; a brother, Robert; two sisters, Theresa Barman and Antoinette Lutz and his in-laws, Doris Barman, Wolfgang and Margaret Maier, Herman and Al Maier, Al and Susan Schrenk, Melvin Spahn and Richard Dyer.
