Bernard Ollen "Barney" Baker passed away Dec. 29, 2006, at St. John's Regional Hospital. Bernard was born July 10, 1933, in Crestline Cherokee County, Kansas, to Ora Lee Moody Baker and Ida Mae Bowers Baker. Barney graduated from Galena High School. Barney served 20 years in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. He loved the military and his country. Barney was married to Margaret J. Willoughby on January 31, 1975, in Springfield, Mo. Their marriage was soleminized in the Salt Lake Temple Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on June 14, 1976, for time and all eternity.

He will be remembered by family and friends for his service to others, his sense of humor, and he never met a stranger. Barney, as he was know to his friends in Springfield was much loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers: Kenneth Donald, Virgil Elsworth, Calvin Leon , Edward Lee, Ora Lavern and Loyd Gene; one sister, Evea Louise (Baker) Uber.; one brother-in-law, Lloyd Arthur Uber.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, and one son, Clint Douglas Baker; four grandchildren, Britney Lee Kent and Mindy A. Ellis, Ollen J. Baker and Allexander W. Baker; great-granddaughters, Taylor Nicole Ellis and Marissa Elizabeth Beth Fienan; stepgrandchildren, Shandi Fienen, Zachary Fienen and Mikaela Fienen; three sisters-in-law, Pansey Tracy Baker, Ladean Wilson Baker, of Galena, Kansas, Martha Jane Baker, of Billings. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and three special friends, Daniel Turner, Matthew Lantz and Josh Mahan.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1357 South Ingram Mill Road, with burial in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
