Family information says Peter Lloyd was born in South Wales on Jan. 8, 1810 and died on Mar. 5 1880. As with his wife, gravestone information differs by one year on date of death. Peter and Margaret Lloyd had five children, all born in Helena, Wisconsin: Robert, Jack, Peter, Mary Jane and Magaret Ellen. Mary Jane and Margaret Ellen married brothers Alvah and John Culver. Peter and Mary Jane are buried in Old Helena. Margaret is buried in Yankton, S.D.

From Geography Handbook & Gazette of Wisconsin: Peter Lloyd, Sr., Farmer, Sec. 28; P.O. Helena: was born in North Wales in 1810. He went to England when 12 years of age where he lived for several years. When about 20 years of age, he went to the city of London, where he lived for several years. He then returned to Wales, and afterward removed to Liverpool, where he was employed on the police force of that place and where he was married to Margaret Davis, also of Wales. He emigrated to New York in about 1840, where he stayed a few months and thence to Pittsburgh where he was employed as a fireman on a steamer and also in a coal mine. He came to Mineral Point, Wisconsin in the spring of 1843 or 1844 where he was hired b y Metcaff to work at the shot tower in Helena. (near Spring Green, WI) in April of that year. He built a dwelling just northeast of the company's house. A few years later, he took up a farm near MillCreek and moved there with his family, although he still spent much of his time at Helena. About 1851, he returned to Helena, and after Bernard's death, built a house on the site of the hotel erected by the latter in 1852. He was employed at the shot-tower for many years; first when owned by Terry & Metcalf; afterward by C. C. Washburne and Cyrus Woodman. Until the tower closed, he was employed in the finishing-house and occassionaly dropped shot. He also carried the mail from Galena to Highland for several years. After 1861, he bought a farm about a mile from the tower, where he resided until shortly before his death. Mr. Lloyd lost his wife Aug 5, 1880. He has four children-Robert H., Peter E. (now station agent at Helena), John T. (resides in Taylor County, Iowa) and Mary Jane (now Mrs. Alvah Culver). He also has one adopted daughter, Margaret E. His farm now contains 160 acres. He intends to make his future home with his daughter, Mrs. Culver, at Lone Rock.

From Wisconsin Historical Society, The First 100 Years 1857-1957 Spring Green, call #F89568568:
"It seems that Peter Lloyd, an employee of Shot Tower, owned a horse so balky as his owner described him "that he wouldn't pull an empty wagon down hill." One day the horse, while grazing, lost its footing on the steep slope and jumped from a bank over a perpendicular precipice of one hundred and eighty feet into the river below, swam a half mile to a suitable landing place and came out safe and sound."
