Mrs. Margie Olean (Slater) Chandler, 78, of Ennis, passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2008 in Dallas. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard with Brother Michael Howard and Martelle Robinson officiating. Interment to follow in Dawson Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Margie was born in the Spring Hill community near Dawson and spent most of her early life in and around the Dawson area. She later lived in Corsicana until 1975 when she moved to Ennis. Margie was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Dawson having joined the congregation in 1946. She loved all of her family dearly especially her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley "Chuck" Chandler; a grandson, Jeremy Camp; sons, Jerry Horner and Larry Shepard; a sister, Libby Truelove; and a brother, J.C. Slater.
Survivors include daughters, Debbie Williamson and husband, Percy, of Ennis, Dianne Marusak and husband, Tommy, of
Ennis, Brenda Castillo, of Ennis, Linda Chandler, of Corsicana and Kathy Fleeman, of Purdon; daughter-in-law, Wander Horner, of Corsicana; stepsons, Bobby Chandler, of Farmersville and Troy Chandler, of Garland; brother, Sonny Slater, of Dawson; sisters, Linda Bryant, of Dawson, Mary Halford, of Morgan Mill and Jane Adams, of Dawson; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
