Amos Clark was born in Meigs County, Ohio to Caleb Clark and Rebecca Gorsuch Clark. Amos spent his youthful days in his parents' home, but was not quite nine years of age when his father died. His educational opportunities were those offered by the common schools. At the time of the Civil War, although still in his teens, he joined the Ohio State militia and saw some lively times during the Morgan raid, for the militia companies were called out and prepared for the defense of the state against the invasion of the Confederate troops. After the close of the war, when a young man of twenty-one years, Mr. Clark came west to Iowa, settling in Cedar County, where he purchased eighty acres of land in Farmington township.
He married Anna Jane Lamb, daughter of Thomas and Hannah Lamb. Amos and Anna's children were Lillie Rebecca, Mary Emma, Luella Wanda and Elizabeth Ann. They are members of the Presbyterian church and are loyal to its teachings
OBITUARY: ANOS CLARK OF NEAR WILTON PASSES AWAY - Wilton, IA., June 2 (Special) Amos Clark, a well known resident of Cedar County, is dead at his country home near here. Mr. Clark was 69 years of age, February 9 last. He came to Iowa from Pomeroy, Ohio, at the close of the civil war and had made his home in Cedar county since that time. For the past five years he had been in failing health. Death occurred this morning at 7:40 o'clock. Cerebral apoplexy was the cause of his death. Mr. Clark is survived by his wife and three daughters- Mrs. Mack McGillivray and Mrs. Charles Covell of this place, and Mrs. H. H. Rath of Tipton, and by his only sister, Mrs. E. J. Covell of Topeka, Kan. The arrangements for the funeral have not yet been announced.
WILTON, IA - June 3 - The funeral services for the late Amos Clark will be held at the home Wednesday, June 4, at 2 o'clock p.m.
