Elizabeth A O'Toole
Birth: Jun. 1, 1932
Death: May 16, 1986

Elizabeth A. O'Toole, wife of Donald L. O'Toole Jr. went to heaven on May 16, 1986. She was only 53 years old. To young to leave this world, her family, her children and grandchildren....proving to all, that "God does only take the BEST". Elizabeth left her mark here on earth and her legacy lives on through her 9 children and her many grandchildren. Elizabeth or Betty as her beloved husband Don would call her, began her life as the only child born to wonderful parents, Mary Lynch and Martin Phelan. She spent her childhood and early adult life in Bayridge, Brooklyn. It was there, in her hometown, at a high school dance, that Betty met her sweetheart, Donald. Although Betty was "smitten" with Don, she played "hard to get", and only accepted a "first date" after Don's relentless pursual. However, after the first date, it was very clear to both, that they would spent eternity together. Before settling into married life and becoming a family man, Donald joined the US Air Force and served his country during the Korean War. The first thing Donald did when his tour of duty ended was marry Elizabeth. Ironically, Elizabeth (an only child), and Donald(1 of 3), together had not 1, not 3, but 10 children...Donald (Don), Kathleen (Katie), Mary, Patricia (Patty), Thomas (Tom), Elizabeth (Bizzy), Eileen, Michael (Mike), Maureen & Beloved Christopher. She was a very loving, caring, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. At the time of her death, Elizabeth had 3 grandchildren, myself (Jennifer), Donald (little Donny) and Christopher. Although I was only ten years old when my grandmather died, I remember everything about her. I remember going to the beach, getting tomatoes(her favorite)from the truck on 17th street, licking the bowl after she mixed a cake, helping her break bread for stuffing on Thanksgiving, painting her toenails, and so many other things about her that I will never forget. I remember worrying that one day I might not remember her, since I was so young when she died, but how can you ever forget someone so special. It makes me sad when I think of how all her other grandchildren missed out on knowing such a wonderful grandmother. She would have "spoiled each and every one of them rotten". The saddest day of my life was when I came home from 5th grade and opened my grandmother's door and she was not there. The pain in my heart was unbearable, but it was "our memories" that made life bearable....knowing that she would never really leave my side....knowing that although she would not be here physically to share in all of my life's experiences, she was in my heart and my soul......my guardian angel for life. On March 14, 2006, Elizabeth was joined in heaven by her husband, Don. Although my heart aches each and every day for their loss, it helps knowing that they are together again. We now have not one, but two guardian angels, watching over and protecting us. May they both find eternal rest, side by side, in each others arms...."Together forever in life and death". Until we meet again, may God hold both of you in the palm of his hand.
