Merchant and Farm Pioneer is Dead At 81
Wed., Aug. 4, 1926, pg.17 , The Davenport Democrat and Leader
Emanuel Klepper, retired farmer and grocer of Muscatine, died early this morning, at his home 713 Mulberry street, after an illness of 17 days, which began when he suffered a stroke of paralysis. He was 81 years of age and a member of one of the oldest families in this section of the state. He was the son of Christian Klepper and Ann Kutz Klepper, who came to Muscatine in 1848. He was born in Carlisle, Pa., Oct. 28, 1844. With the exception of five years spent in Everett, Wash., he had lived all his life here. He was married Sept. 2, 1868 to Erie Burdette who died four and a half months ago. He enlisted in the Civil War in 1862 and served until the end of the war with the 35th Iowa regiment. For 27 years he was a member of the gorcery firm of Klepper and Hill. Two sons survive. They are Alfred of Muscatine and Clarence of Lowell, Wash. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
