After the death of his first wife, he married Ludie Fowler 18 October 1952 in Blount County, Alabama. He retired from Blount Memorial Hospital.
Ellis died on June 28, 1983, in Blount Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, Alabama at the age of 73. Funeral services were June 30 at Brooksville Baptist Church. Burial followed in Brooksville Baptist Cemetery.
