Graveside services will follow later that same day at 3 p.m. at Highfill Cemetery, near Gentry, Ark. where Ed will be laid to rest next to his wife, Dorothy. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 10-8, with family receiving friends from 6-8. Ed passed away on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 at the age of 87.
Born Oct. 29, 1921 in Highfill, Ark. to Willis and Lena (Moore) Hendrickson, Ed received his education in his birth community. Following his schooling, Ed met Dorothy Marie Garrett at a local café in Gentry, Ark., where she worked as a waitress. On May 1, 1943, the two became husband and wife in a Decatur, Ark. ceremony. The young couple made their first home in Gentry and later lived in Siloam Springs and Aurora, Mo. due to Ed's work as a mechanic. In 1950, Ed and Dorothy moved to Claremore.
Following a 25 year career with American Airlines, Ed retired in 1984. This allowed him more time to spend with his family. Many weekends were spent at their Lake Hudson home fishing. This also allowed him to attend church in Salina at the Lakeview Baptist Church. Being an avid outdoorsman, Ed also enjoyed farming.
This loving father and grandfather will be missed by all who knew him. Those that survive include his children, Norma Hendrickson Graham, James Edward Hendrickson and wife Sally all of Claremore, Lynda Lou Bettinger and husband Rob of Mannford and Larry Elwood Hendrickson and wife Pamela of Van Buren, Ark.; 10 grandchildren, Michael Gage and wife Angela of Frisco, Texas, Jeffery Gage of Broken Arrow, Shelly Sumter and husband Mark of Norman, Brian Hendrickson and wife Patti of Inola, Brent Davis and wife Gina of Owasso, Jennifer Gragg and husband Mike of Arkoma, David Hendrickson and wife Cynthia, Julie Stockton and husband Brandon, Blake Mashburn all of Van Buren, Ark. and Leslie Holder of Charleston, S.C.; 27 great grandchildren; and brother Grant Hendrickson of Four Corners, N.M.
