Charles Crow ABERNATHY (Special) - Memorial services for Charles "Ed" Crow, 87, of Abernathy will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Abernathy First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Wilcox, pastor, officiating. Private burial services were held Sunday in Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home. He died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at his home.
He was born in Collingsworth County on Nov. 12, 1912. He moved with his parents to Abernathy in 1913 end graduated from Abernathy High School in 1930.
He married Nadyne Stewart on Nov. 14, 1937, in Graham Tx.. She died Jan. 10, 1996.
He operated a service Station with his father in Abernathy in 1938 and 1939 and began working far Reid Chevrolet Co. in Abernathy in 1940. He became parts manager in 1941. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942. He spent one year in North Africa and the remainder of his service n the Army Troop Transport Service as a radio operator. He as discharged in 1945 having attained the rank of technical sergeant. He returned to work in Abernathy for Reid Chevrolet.
In 1946 he was elected chief of the Abernathy Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for 30 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, and in 1949 became a charter member of the American Legion, Adjutant Past No. 500. He served on the Abernathy City Council beginning in 1949 and served several terms.
