MAYSVILLE | Brooklyn Neal Heminger, 20, of Maysville, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014.

Brooklyn, who was known and admired for her creative and artistic flair, was a 2012 graduate of St. Patrick High School where she was involved in cheerleading. She was currently enrolled at Maysville Community and Technical College, where she was studying for an Associates of Arts degree. She was employed at Goodwill Industries in Maysville and was a member of St. Patrick Church.

She helped develop an after-school art club for St. Patrick School elementary students and received the Girl Scouts of America's highest award, the Gold Award, for development of this program.

She had a deep and passionate love of the arts and found pleasure in expressing her creativity through her clothes and changing hair colors. She also had a comedic side to her that brought laughter and smiles to those around her.

Brooklyn was born in Maysville on Nov. 12, 1993, the only child to her loving and adoring parents, Rita and Mark Heminger.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her aunts and uncles, Gwyn and Joey Gallenstein, Glenda and Jerry Qualls, all of Maysville, Gail and Timothy Casselman of Jamestown, South Carolina, Janie McCormick of Germantown and Pam and Dr. Eric Trimas of Chelsea, Mich.; her maternal grandfather, James Turner of West Union, Ohio; her cousins, Kacie (Corey) Casselman Brown, Logan Gallenstein, Rachel Trimas, David Trimas, A.J. McCormick and Dustin McCormick; her step-grandmother, Brenda Heminger; her beloved dog, Sir Nick; and numerous friends including Haley May, a neighbor who Brooklyn referred to as her "little sister".

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Hilda Turner; paternal grandparents, Brookie and "Wink" Heminger; maternal great-grandparents, Audrey Neal and Willy Peed; paternal great-grandparents, Opal and Mary Hull and Majorie Simms; and a great aunt, Kay Heminger.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at St. Patrick Church with Fr. William Hinds and Fr. Matthew Cushing as concelebrants. Burial will follow in the Maysville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Patrick Church.
