| Birth: | Apr. 25, 1912 Hammond Piatt County Illinois, USA | | Death: | Feb. 9, 2005 Chicago Cook County Illinois, USA | My Aunt Audrey was quite a cut-up in her younger years. When I was a child, we often traveled to Illinois during the summer months and stopped by her place in Oak Lawn near Chicago. She must have been in her early 50's then and was a very pretty blond as I recall. She owned & operated her own beauty shop in Chicago and married Uncle "Doc" Gregory. Dr. Gregory always was smoking cigars and eventually was diagnosed with lung cancer. One day, Aunt Audrey's husband asked her to go to the store for some items, when she returned, Doc had committed suicide via gunshot rather than face the agonizing death that awaited him. Always bright & sunny in her disposition towards others, I spoke with her by phone every few months over the last several years. She always sent a Christmas card to my family and listed myself, my spouse and all the children by name. Committed to a home just a few months before her death, she finally passed on quietly just 2 1/2 months shy of her 94th birthday. She was the last living member of a family of 11 brother's & sisters. A memorial service is to be held on Sunday, February 27th 2005 at the Hammond Church of Christ. What a Lady! She will be missed.
