Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Claremont Presbyterian Church, 1111 N. Mountain Ave. in Claremont, for D. Gregg Brown, 50, of Riverside, a former Brawley resident who died of heart complications Wednesday in Riverside.
Mr. Brown was born in Brawley.
He graduated from Darmouth College, where he played college football. He also played professional football for the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys.
Mr. Brown was former Brawley Rotarian and a founding member of the Imperial Valley chapter of the Building Industry Association. He served as president of that chapter from 1992 to 1997. He was the managing partner of Ventana Ranch in Brawley.
He also owned Camashco, Inc., the developer of Rodeo Bluffs Estates in Brawley. He served as vice president of the Building Industry Association of Southern California in 1998 and as president in 1999.
Mr. Brown was honored as "builder of the year" in 1999 and was to be installed as president of the California Building Industry Association in November, according to family
Survivors include his wife, Debra Melton-Brown of Riverside; daughter, Ashley Melton-Brown of Riverside; sons, Cameron Brown and Corey Brown, both of Riverside; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Brown of Seattle; brother, Dwayne Brown of Seattle; and sister Kent Brown of Seattle.
The family suggests memorials be sent be to the Ashley Melton-Brown custodial account, c/o BIA-SC, 1330 S. Valley Vista Drive, Diamond Bar, CA 91765.
