Arden Jean BIGGAR was born Dec 5, 1950 in Scranton, PA. She died suddenly and unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug 5, 2008 at age 57. She graduated from Alfred University and became a chief financial officer at age 26. She was nationally respected for her 25-year career in health care finance.

Ms. Biggar was involved in the design and establishment of Eastern Mercy Healthcare Systems, based in Radnor, PA; a multi-state consortium of Sisters of Mercy Hospitals. She served in a variety of health care facilities in upstate New York. In August 1996, she moved to Houston, TX as controller, revenue cycle for Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center Later, Ms. Biggar established a revenue cycle oversight function for all 14 hospitals in that system. In July 2000, The Methodist Hospital recruited Ms. Biggar to build a revenue cycle team and streamline access and billing processes. She was Vice President of Revenue Cycle and had an immediate impact at Methodist on a professional and personal level.

She was a Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) chapter president at the Rochester Regional Chapter (1987-1988) and at theTexas Gulf Coast Chapter (2005-2006). She was a board member of the Gulf Coast Chapter when she died. Ms. Biggar was selected as a delegate to the HFMA United States United Kingdom exchange program for 2005 to 2006. She was also a delegate in the People to People exchange program with HFMA to China in 2007 to study the health care delivery model there. Ms. Biggar also worked on health care delivery systems in Saudi Arabia and Istanbul, Turkey.

To friends, family and colleagues at The Methodist Hospital, Arden was known and loved for her zest for life, her personal sense of style, her remarkable spirit, love of travel, engaging personality and intellect, and for always standing up for the right thing.

Arden's memorial service was Friday at The Methodist Hospital in Houston. Internment was at Langcliff Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Avoca, PA.
