Joanne was the daughter of Jerome (Jerry) Schreiber and Estelle Cohen Schreiber and sister to Robin. Joanne was my cousin, my mother's younger sister's daughter. As a girl, she was everyone's favorite because she was so pretty and upbeat and lighthearted ... always happy, laughing and smiling. She was devoted to her grandmother, Celia Sadt Cohen and wrote the most beautiful letters to Grandma and the rest of us. Unfortunately, Joanne suffered a trauma that emotionally scarred her, but she didn't let it ruin her life or lovely disposition. She was a feminist and came out as a member of the Lesbian Community early in adulthood. Joanne was a superb, gifted and talented musician. She sang and wrote songs for several bands she was in. Joanne was a regular at the Michigan Wimmin's Music Festival. Only a year or so before she died she cut her first professional CD. In addition, Joanne was an artistic and accomplished craftsperson. In 2005 Joanne learned she had lung cancer (she was once a smoker, but had given up that habit many years before), and within the year died at the age of 54. All her friends and relatives miss her dearly.
