Mayor of Dearborn, MI.
Orville Hubbard was the longest serving Mayor of Dearborn, from 1942 - 1978, when he had a stroke and had to step down in late 1977. Up to a few years ago, he was the longest serving Mayor in the United States.
My family were good friends and he would visit even after he was wheelchair bound, when his son Frank brought him once to my Grandma's house. I remember shaking his hand over the years, and he was always friendly, like his children and grandchildren are. When my Grandma had problems with service, he was there taking care of it himself. Once an City of Dearborn Employee got out of line and nasty to my Grandma Tracy, she called him. A few hours later he made the employee, with him standing next to him, apologize. He served in the Marines, and was stationed for one and a half years in the Virgin Islands.
