Larry L. Andres, age 71, of Alma, Kansas, died Tuesday afternoon, November 4, 2008, at his residence in Alma.
He was born on January 9, 1937, on a farm in Wabaunsee County, Kansas, the son of Milden W. and Evelyn (Haffner) Andres. Larry graduated from Alta Vista High School and attended Kansas State University for one year.
In 1960, he was drafted into the United States Army serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1962.
Mr. Andres was a lifetime area resident where he farmed, worked as a concrete worker in the construction industry and later worked in maintenance for a Topeka Wal-Mart.
He was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church south of Alta Vista, Kansas and held a membership with the Alta Vista and Alma Masonic Lodges. He was also a member of the Eastern Star.
On February 18, 1962, he was united in marriage to the former Sybil Hollis. She preceded him in death in December of 1994. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Andres is survived by one son: Dewey Andres, of Alma, Kansas and two daughters: Lydia Drennon and her husband George of Beaufort, South Carolina and Laura Andres of Quenemo, Kansas. He is also survived by one sister: Sharon Herbert of St. Charles, Louisiana, two brothers: Wesley Andres of Sagle, Idaho, Dwight Andres of Alta Vista, Kansas and a grandson: Jacob Drennon of Beaufort, South Carolina.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2008, at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church with Reverend Young-Gil Bahng officiating. Interment will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery by the church.
