Brian Douglas Garr, 49, peacefully went to be with his Lord on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, surrounded by his family. He courageously, and with much mirth, managed a 49-year strategic battle with Type I Diabetes. After 48 years of miraculous health, he fought back this past year with determination, hope, humor and faith to beat the multiple side effects of long-term Diabetes, especially the kidney disease. He continued to joke and love during his journey to peace and is now free from pain and suffering.
Brian graduated from Gunn High School of Palo Alto, Calif., in 1983 and then from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1992 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. An evolving and challenging career in Project Mangagement ensued for 25 years, spanning work in Santa Clara, Santa Rosa, Rancho Cordova and El Dorado Hills. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, April; his four children, Darin, Elisa, Nathan and Joshua; his parents, Rex and Ann Garr; his brother, Dave Garr and his family, Elizabeth, Katherine and Lucy. Although Brian joins his beloved brother-in-law, David Garrison, he leaves behind his sister-in-law, Dorothy Garrison; and his niece and nephew, Haley and Shane. He is also survived by God-children, cousins, aunts, uncles and many other family members and friends who will love and cherish him forever.
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
