Elva E. Babbitt

Elva E. Babbitt of 2909 Arrow Highway, La Verne, died Saturday morning in a local convalescent center.

She was born Oct. 31, 1896 in Indiana and moved to Los Angles in 1953. She moved to Pomona in 1964 and lived there until moving to La Verne three years ago.

Survivors include two sisters, Golda M. Love of La Verne and Virginia Miiller of Goodland, Ind.; a brother, Clarence H Eastes of Kansas City, Mo. and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in Todd Memorial Chapel Pomona. Kenneth R. Swisher of the World Wide Church of God will officiate. Private burial services will be held in Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.

Friends may call at the Pomona Chapel Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Elva Ethel Eastes was the oldest daughter of Marshall T. Eastes and Ella Virginia McKillip. She was first married in 1919 to Silas Taylor. Her second marriage took place in 1924 to Charles W Rupe. Her final marriage was to Robert E. Babbitt in 1930. She never had any children, but her nieces and nephews loved her dearly. She had a sweetness and kindness that you could not help but love.

When very young she helped her mother, Ella, who took in wash. Her Occupation early in life was a manicurist and shared management of a shop with her niece Lois Eastes Palmer. She ran a restaurant with her sister Golda, and in later life, she and her sister Golda had a board and care home.

Her siblings included Lawrence T. Eastes, Virginia E. Eastes Miiller, Golda May Eastes Love, and Clarence Holman (Pete)Eastes. She had also three half-brothers Willam Harrison Eastes, Frank Maridoth Eastes, and Walter Alonzo Eastes.
