--------------------------------------------
Arthur G. Brazelton was born at Elbert, CO, on Dec. 31, 1907, the third son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Brazelton. His grandparents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Alex Brazelton and Mr. and Mrs. John Rhudy, early pioneers of Elbert County.
Jack spent most of his life in the Elbert community, receiving his education in the Elbert and Elizabeth schools. His love of animals and nature became his life's work and he was dedicated to the preservation and improvement of each. It was not unusual for Jack to ride many miles out of his way and to spend hours ministering to a sick animal for neighbors as well as his own. He was recognized as an authority on the breeding and training of horses, and spent several years with the Ellsworth racing stables and made the circuit of the large tracks all over the United States with their prize winning racers.
He owned and operated a ranch east of Elbert and his beloved "Little Rancho" in El Paso County. His own fine horses and cattle are a testimony to his desire for improvement.
During World War II Jack served in the United States Army and received honorable discharge.
The story of his life is a monument to unselfishness and sacrifice. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and his good advice was available but not thrust upon anyone. He made his home with his mother in Elbert, where he could look after her and still be near his ranching interests.
His friends were numbered by his acquaintances, who are very aware of the emptiness in their lives.
Jack passed away on May 12, 1962, in Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs after a short illness.
He was a man of quiet taste; the simple things of life were meant for him. His honest, sincere friendship he extended to everyone and sought no rewards or considerations.
