Co-founder of the Rrix de Lausanne. Born in Nice to Russian parents she trained at Madame Julia Sedova's ballet school.
She began her professional career in Nice and also danced in Marseilles, Lyon, Strasbourg and Bordeaux.
It was at Madame Sedova's school that she met Philippe Braunschweig in 1950. At the time he was a student at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Within two years they were married and had their first child. Their close relationship, personal and working, was to last 57 years.
Although Elvire's ballet career was cut short by motherhood she had already established herself as a talented dancer with Ballet de Vichy. There she met Béjart whom was to remain a lifelong friend.
Elvire and her husband founded Prix de Lausanne in 1972. Thanks to their many dance contacts the competition in one of international repute. Whilst Philippe was responsible for the creative and business side of things, Elvire confirmed her position of talent spotter and a person of enormous compassion. Many times she took impecunious dancers under her wing and helped them any way she could.
She retired from the board officially about ten years ago but remained active as an honorary member, always attending the competition. In later years she fulfilled her dreams to paint. She made a great success at this and her work was exhibited in Lausanne.
She passed away unexpectantly at home in Switzerland at 85.
