Enlisted in Snead's Company, Virginia Light Artillery (Fluvanna Artillery) Confederate States of America 15 Nov. 1863.
Wounded in the left foot at Tenth Legion Church, VA 24 Sept. 1864. (Family history says that his left heel was shot off).
He died with his sledgehammer in his hand while laying railroad track.
