Ancel was the son of Rev. Charles and Mary Ann Dyer Caddy. He was injured while standing too close to a cannon that was being fired. The force of the cannon caused him to be thrown to the ground. He later died of his wounds at Ft. Donelson, TN. Originally buried in the Old Lima Cemetery, his grave was moved to Woodlawn cemetery in 1968.
