Marshall Baker lies dying in a two roomed home in East Ramona, the result of a fight with Alva Hawk in Tillison's Drug Store Monday night.
Hawk and several men wanted to drink and shoot craps in the pool hall run by Mr Baker. Mr. Baker oobjected and according to his story, in order to stop them from drinking and gambling turned out the lights. Hawk objected and a fight followed with Baker knoking Hawk down. Hawk ran toward home and Baker closed up and went to Tillisons. Here, Hawks hit him with a brick from behind several times, cutting a hole in his head and mashing his face to a pulp. Some heard and saw but no one thought best to interfere. Baker went home and remained in bed all day Tuesday. On Wednessday, his nose started to bleed and blood was found in the hole in his skull. Yesterday, he began to feel better and came up town for a short time. At three am this morning he told his wife it was time to get up and began to convulse and became unconsious. He suffered from a blood clot on the brain.
Hawk left town tuesday morning and has not been heard from since. Hawks, is around twenty and has a lot of friends. may people feel it is the man or men who brought liquor to the town that should be punished not the "foolish boy". Baker died after 1PM and Count Attorney Harrison has issed warrant for Mr Hawk.

Born 16 Feb 1884, died 26 Jan 1917 aged 32 years 11 months 10 days. He leaves a wife, 3 children, a mother, a father, one brother, 3 sisters to mourn him.
He was well known here having lived in Ramona for many years. He was teperate and industrious and well liked by those who knew him best. Serveral years ago he had the misfortune to lose a leg and for some time had been in ill health but was able to attend to his business up till a few days before his death.
The funeral services were held at the home of his parents, Mr and Mrs John Baker of this city and conducted by Rev J.A. Griffitts after which the body was put away in the Ramona Cemetery. The heart broken family have the sympathy of the entire community.
