Services for U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Jon Paul Cox II are set for 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Metcalf Funeral Home, 1801 East White Oak Terrace in Conroe, with family friend Tim Marler officiating. A graveside service will follow at Garden Park Cemetery on FM 3083. Visitation was held Nov. 14, Sunday evening, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Metcalf Funeral Home.
A USMC Honor Guard will serve as official pallbearers, with Joey Arthur and Kristin West as honorary pallbearers.
Paul was born June 7, 1984 in Little Rock, Ark., and passed away Nov. 5, 2004, near Yuma, Ariz., where he was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station - Yuma.
He is survived by his parents Shane and Vicki Denea Arthur, of Conroe, and Jon Cox of Wylie, Texas; brother Joey Arthur, and wife Lisa, of Conroe; grandparents John and Florence Bailey of Conroe, Bonnie Owens-Kuntz of Bismarck, Ark., Philip and Jama Cox of Bigelow, Ark., Steve and Jan Dial of Willis, and Philip and ShirleyArthur of Navasota; great- grandparents Freeda Bailey of Vilonia, Ark., Jack Parker of Willis, Bob and Mickey Higginbotham, of Tomball, and Noel and Yvonne Arthur of Willis. Numerous beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends also survive.
Paul was always known as a bright and curious boy, who excelled in school and was interested in many facets of science. He came to know Jesus as his personal savior at a young age and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Groceville. Paul routinely and often talked to friends about his faith. He attended Willis schools until the fifth grade and was home-schooled during his junior high and high school years, graduating in November 2001.
Paul entered the U.S. Marine Corps in December 2001 and completed basic training before his 18th birthday. While stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Paul was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for his outstanding accomplishments in military surveillance technology. More than 200 servicemen and -women had been nominated for the medal.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Paul's name to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS), 4015 Wilson Blvd., 10th Floor, Arlington VA 22203.
