Husband of Amanda Mae (Morris) Close (1859 - 1942). They were married on Feb. 16, 1879 in Somerset, Mercer County, Missouri. William was the father of Emma Devona (Close) Walls and Jesse Charles Close. He was the son of Benjamin Franklin Close (Civil War Veteran) and Laura (Newcomb) Close. He was the grandson of Rev. Samuel J. Close and great grandson of Benjamin Close - a Revolutionary War patriot.
William and his wife, Amanda, were living in Trenton, Grundy County, Missouri in 1900. By 1910, William was in the Grundy County infirmary (or "poor house"). The census lists him in 1910 as widowed, but that was not true. His wife, Amanda, lived in St. Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri from at least 1911 until her death in 1942. Sadly, William would be in the infirmary for at least five years (if not more). He died of tuberculosis of the lungs at age 65. His death certificate lists him as a widower, but again, this was not true as he had a wife and two children at the time.
Note: The cemetery sign lists him as "Reese Close." This was definitely him, but just a typographical error on the cemetery sign.
