SAMPSON DAVIS DEAD
Sampson Davis, one of the oldest residents of Labette County, died Sunday morning at Dubuque, Iowa, where he had been undergoing treatment in a hospital for two months. He had been in poor health for several years and of late had declined rapidly. The remains were brought back to Parsons and funeral services conducted Wednesday afternoon from the Presbyterian church. Interment was made in Oakwood cemetery.
Mr. Davis was born in Dearborn County, Indiana, January 18, 1843. He was married April 26, 1863 to Miss Sarah Gray at Havana, Ills., and the aged couple celebrated their golden wedding in this city two years ago. In 1867 they came to Kansas and settled near Lawrence. Two years later they came to Labette county and took up a claim south of Labette City. Later they became residents of that little burg and about twenty years ago came to Parsons which has since remained their home.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife and four children as follows: Mrs. Sackie A. Harvey, Mrs, Nellie Mathis, Harry E. Davis and Charles R. Davis. The older son, Harry, holds a responsible position as a bridge and building fore man for a railroad out of Chicago. The younger son, Charles, is treasurer of the Strasburger Dry Goods Company.
