David Willard Rivers, age 59, of Mt. Joy, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 29, 2009, at his residence. He was born April 21, 1950, a son of the late Willard C. and Monica M. "Bootie" Williams Rivers. Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Karen (Free) Rivers, whom he married August 19, 1973, at Hoffer Hill Church, two sons, Mark Rivers and David Rivers II both of Otway, one daughter, Rhonda (Rivers) Price of Otway, one brother, Charles Rivers of Alabama, three sisters Carol Blankenship of Waverly, Toni Groves of Mt. Joy and Pam Blankenship of Peebles and five grandsons, Mikey Price, Tyler Rivers, Brady Price, Nathan Rivers and Markie Rivers. David was a U.S. Navy veteran and served as trustee for Rarden Twp. He was a member of Sinking Springs Masonic Lodge, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Eastern Star of Lucasville, Ohio. He was a fun, loving and caring person who loved to be with his family, he also enjoyed playing and singing his music, and enjoyed hunting. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Sunday, November 1, 2009, at Botkin Funeral Home in Otway with Pastor Delbert Copas officiating. Burial will follow in U.P. Cemetery with Military Graveside Services conducted by William A. Baker Post #363, Lucasville, Ohio. Friends may call from 5-8 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home in Otway where Masonic services will be held at 7:30 P.M.

David had been ill and died from complications of pneumonia. He was the first cousin of my father, Charles T. "Buddy" Williams. I still have a t-shirt from the 1970s or early '80s for David's Smoky River Band. He was a great guy. He will be missed by many people.
