Sloma Ann Hibbs Williams was born in the Jaybird section of Adams County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Samuel Sweeney Hibbs (1806/08-1886) and Catherine Ann Tener (called Sarah Catherine in some records - 5/19/1815-6?/28/1862).
Sloma's siblings and their birthdates: Alliniah (10/11/1832), Marquis deLaFayette (9/14/1833), Joseph Dewey (6/20/1835), Sarah G. (?/?/1845), Lizzie (?/?/?), Rhuhama (?/?/1857), Henry W. (10/25/1852), Samuel Milton (?/?/?), Elizabeth (?/?/?), and her half-brother, Mack (?/?/?).
The picture attached here is of Sloma's 69th birthday party on Feb. 4, 1909. It was taken on the porch of Sloma's daughter Eliza's house in the village of Rarden, Adams County, Ohio. From left to right, Sloma is the tenth person in the second row of folks (the first row behind the fence).
Sloma was married to John "Rocky" Williams (b. 9/2/1830), a local farmer, in 1862. They had at least three children: Eliza, Charles, and Della Pearl. Charles and Eliza appear in the photo; Della Pearl died in 1891. Charles is the 7th person in the same row as Sloma, with his hand on the shoulder of his neighbor); Eliza is in the same row holding her toddler daughter, Mary Newman. Sloma's husband, John "Rocky" Williams, stands next to their daughter, Eliza. (Side note: Charles was an agent for the N & W Railroad in Rarden; Eliza married John Newman; Della Pearl passed away in 1891.)
Find A Grave has the Newman Family Cemetery listed in Peebles, Ohio. Actually, it is located approximately 10-11 miles east of Peebles, about 1-2 miles west of Rarden, Ohio on State Route 73. Sloma and "Rocky" are buried in the older, more wooded section of the cemetery. As one walks down the hill in this section of the cemetery, Sloma and John Williams are buried at the bottom of the hill, over to the left, along the edge of the cemetery, near a culvert/creek.
