Robert "Bob" R. Cassidy, 88, a life long resident of Plainville passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010. He shared his life with Mary Isabel (Posadas) Cassidy and together they celebrated 61 years of marriage together. Born in Plainville on November 30, 1921, he was the son of the late Thomas and Hazel (Conlon) Cassidy.

Bob grew up in Plainville and graduated Plainville High School. He then went on to attend Teacher's College (CCSU). He entered in to the Army earning the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving during World War II in France, Belgium and England. Following his time in the military, he came back to Plainville beginning his career with the U. S. Postal Service. Over the course of 40 years, he worked his way from a carrier to Postmaster until his retirement on Jan. 20, 1981. He was also a member and Past President of the Postmaster Association of America. He was involved in many organizations including Executive Director of CT ASA, the Chairman of the Executive Board and ASA Commissioner of the Plainville Board; Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and Past Grand Knight and started the Plainville Park and Recreational Department. He was a member of the Softball Hall of Fame for CT. Bob loved the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, his beloved Yankees and enjoying family trips. Most importantly, he loved his family especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the lights of his life and he loved every minute with them. During the holidays, he would plan well in advance the logistics to make sure that all family members could make it. From his favorite holiday of St. Patrick's Day, to any time where he gathered with his loved ones, he would always say "Family is the most important thing." No one lived truer to those words then him. Bob will be missed by all those who knew him.

Besides his loving wife, he leaves his children Kathleen Drozd and her husband Paul of Plainville; Robert K. Cassidy and his wife Rebecca of Bradenton, FL; Maureen Cassidy of Plainville; Sarah Cassidy of Plainville; Colleen Snyder and her husband David of Plainville; his grandchildren Craig Drozd, Matthew Cassidy, Amy Cassidy, Sarah Tessier and her husband Ken, David Snyder and his wife Kristin; 6 great-grandchildren; his brothers Donald Cassidy and his wife Lillian of Plattsburg, NY and Jack Cassidy and his wife Marie of Plainville; along with several nieces and nephews.
