1 fatality in crash

At 4 p.m. on State Highway 22, a 2000 Ford Ranger, driven by Frost resident Jason Dozier, flipped several times and 14-year-old passenger, Malone resident Matthew Norris, was killed in the ensuing crash.

According to Department of Public Safety Trooper Carlon Stapleton, one of the tires was low on tread causing the vehicle to flip.

"None of the passengers nor the driver was wearing a safety belt," Stapleton said.

The vehicle was traveling westbound on Hwy. 22 at the 604 mile marker when the accident occurred. Dozier was transported by careflight to Hillcrest Hospital. Passenger Tommy Dozier was also transported to a facility in Hillsboro.

Both the driver and Norris were ejected from the vehicle on impact, Stapleton said.

Norris was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Vicki Gray.

"The DPS is continuing this investigation on if any criminal charges will be filed," Stapleton said.
