"Rev. James Thornton ARTHUR, was born in Bloom Township, Scioto County, Ohio on April 22, 1853. His parents are Joel and Malinda (Mault) ARTHUR. On June 15, 1853, he was married to Eliza Jane Monroe. Receiving ordination August 20, 1887, he spent several months in Evangelistic work in the Little Scioto Quarterly Meeting of the Ohio and Kentucky Yearly Meeting. Residing in Scioto, he holds the pastorate of the Harrison Church (1889).
He rode horseback in all kinds of weather preaching to the people of towns and villages the gospel he was ordained to preach. He died in faith and left a good name for his descendants." Winnie
He married for a second time to Katherine Young Reed Zempter on April 9, 1900.
