Funeral service for Carroll G. Alexander, 80, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Columbia Original Free Will Baptist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Rev. Alexander died Saturday, December 28, 2013. Born in Bethel, N.C., he was a son of the late Rev. D.W. and Margaret Alexander. He was a graduate of the Free Will Baptist College where he served as president of his senior class in 1954, and also Columbia Bible College where he received his master's degree. He was ordained into the Gospel Ministry at Winterville, N.C. in 1954, and then he pastored Westside Free Will Baptist Church, Johnsonville, S.C., Faith Free Will Baptist Church, Kinston, N.C., and Columbia Original Free Will Baptist Church, Columbia, S.C. Within the Free Will Baptist Denomination, he held many offices including: Free Will Baptist College Board of Trustees (Welch College), Clerk of South Carolina Conference, Moderator of SC State Association, Presbytery and Examining Board, and District Conference Home Mission Board.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Anna Lee Alexander of the home; daughter, Martha Jane Drake (Paul) of Columbia; son, Kenneth Leroy Alexander (Lisa) of Columbia; grandchildren, K.C. Alexander of Columbia, Kimberly Carol Alexander of Nashville, Tenn., Kyle Christopher Alexander of Columbia, Brittany Leanne Moss (Jeff) of Moncks Corner, Bethany Carol Drake of Columbia, Martha Diane Drake of Columbia; sister, Nancy Hart of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; former daughter-in-law, Laura Alexander of West Columbia.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, D.W. Alexander, Jr., Ernest Alexander, Sam Alexander, Kenneth Alexander, and sister, Minnie Brown Whitehurst.
