Idaho State Police identified a motorcycle rider who died in a collision Saturday in southeast Canyon County as Kevin Dellabalma, 37, of Nampa.
Investigators confirmed that Dellabalma riding a Harley Davidson failed to stop at a stop sign at Locust Lane and Robinson Road about 6:10 p.m. Saturday. His motorcycle struck a Ford Fusion on the passenger side. He was thrown from his bike into the intersection and was not wearing a helmet. He died at the scene, they said.
The driver and passenger of the Ford Fusion, John and Susan Ball, both of Nampa, were taken to Mercy Medical Center where they were treated and released with minor injuries.
It has not been determined if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
Kevin Eric Dellabalma was born July 5, 1971, in Eureka, Calif., to Erling and JoAnn Dellabalma, the youngest of five; Machael, Michael, Robert and Timothy. Kevin graduated from Eureka High School in 1989 and went on to college at Cal Poly. He left Cal Poly to come back home and help his dad on the family dairy.
Through his friendship with Joeseph Macci, Kevin met his wife Nicole in 1991. They were married on Sept. 11, 1993, and went on to have three children, Clarence Batista on 01/02/95, Samuel Justin on 07/22/97, and Elizabeth Marie on 09/13/05.
Kevin became a partner and manager of the dairy working along side his dad in the Elk River Valley where he was raised. Kevin shared his love of the farm and farming equipment with his sons. You would often find Kevin driving one of the tractors while holding Sam on his lap and Clarence with his grandfather pushing the cows down the lane.
Kevin enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He also loved playing golf. It was amazing to see how well he played even though he only played once in a while. Changing times in the dairy industry made for the hard decision to dissolve the dairy.
Kevin and his family moved to Nampa, Idaho, in 2007 for better employment opportunities and to be near family. Kevin was soon employed by Warner Construction and moved his family to a nice neighborhood where his love of motorcycles grew. Kevin had owned his first motorcycle in Eureka, but due to the rainy weather had limited time to ride. Kevin purchased his Harley-Davidson, Street Bob, in November of 2007 and was quickly surrounded by a growing number of friends who all shared their love of riding. With Kevin's friendly nature and great sense of humor, you would often find him laughing and joking with friends and family over a game of pool.
He will be greatly missed and remembered with love. Kevin lost his life on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, doing what he loved, riding his motorcycle.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Nicole; his two sons, Clarence Batista, Samuel Justin, and his daughter Elizabeth Marie; his parents, Erling and JoAnn Dellabalma; sister Machael and her husband Daniel Haskins, their children, Sarah, Katie, Matthew and Dylan; his brother Michael and his two daughters Rebecca and Alex; his brothers Robert and Timothy; also his grandmother, Jacqueline Grammer and many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews; parents on his wife's side, Dennis and Diance Macci; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Shana Macci and their daughter, Jenavieve; and brother and sister-in-law, Christopher and Lynn Macci.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Nampa.
