Grandpa went to be with the Lord on July 25, 2007 in Oklahoma City after a long battle with cancer and other illnesses. He was born May 29, 1920 in Rosedale, Oklahoma to Sheldon W. and Martha J. (Hibbard) Cromwell. He married Linnie Belle Julia Glover on February 9, 1941.
His roots began in Oklahoma, including working for his brother at the Kit Kat Café in Ada, and at his father's grocery store in Sulphur. James and Linnie Belle moved to California where he was a butcher and owned his own store. In 1952, James became an Evangelist. He and Linnie Belle traveled all over the world spreading the good news of Jesus Christ. Together they had five children and eventually settled in southern Illinois. James continued to preach after Linnie Belle's death in 1990.
We will always remember his love for the Lord. We will never forget his passion for cooking, grilling and making tamales. He was an excellent guitar player and played with Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys at one time. He loved music, was an avid reader and enjoyed word-find puzzles. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, telling interesting stories of his childhood in Oklahoma and how he loved to fish. He also wrote many books telling of his relationship with Jesus.
