John William Alexander Dittman was born September 30, 1937 in Casper, Wyoming, to Mary Louise (Dobby) and John Edgar Dittman.
His family moved to Vallejo when he was three years old. After graduating from Vallejo High School in 1956, he married his high school sweetheart and enlisted in the United States Army, serving for three years in the Army Security Agency. He was honorably discharged in 1959 and attended Vallejo Jr. College. He opened Dittman Moving and Storage and worked with his wife until 1984. They traveled in their motor home for four months before moving to Napa and opening the "Napa Valley Art Store" in 1985. They retired from this business in 1998 and enjoyed family gatherings, music concerts, long walks, good food and dancing. He also had an active interest in politics.
He was a member of the Masonic Order of Vallejo, a lifetime member of the Naval Lodge, Vallejo, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, YMCA Indian Guides and was a team sponsor for the West Vallejo Mare Island Little League.
He was predeceased by son Mark in 1993.
