Actress. Born Malka Opiekun in New York City, she began her career as a child performer in the Yiddish Theatre, Philadelphia. Joining Mike Tomashefsky's Yiddish stock company, she went on to be a popular Yiddish entertainer. During the 1930s, she toured as a member of The Jewish Theatrical Guild, performed on Broadway and was on radio with General Foods as a sponsor. She appeared in the Yiddish films "Yiddle With His Fiddle" (1936), "Mamale" (1938) and was one of the first entertainers to go to Europe after World War II to entertain the surviving Jews. She also wrote almost 100 songs and skits for the stage and was a member of the Yiddish Composers Guild, American Federation of Radio Artists, American Guild of Variety Artists and Actors Equity. Actor Jacob Kalich was her
husband.
