1850 census Woodbury, Ct. John is living with his wife, Mary Ann (Manville) and 2 children, Charles & Emeritt.
John's wife, Mary Ann died in 1858 from a sudden stroke. in Central Falls, R. I.
"She was only sick a half hour when she fell asleep in Jesus."
John Minder's records
1860 census Providence, R.I. 5th Ward, he is living with his 2nd wife Sarah, his son Charles and daughter Josephine, also Sarah's two children Catherine and Sarah.
His daughter Emeritt is living with her grandparents, Uri & Betsy Manville, in Middlebury, Ct.
During the Civil War he worked for the Army Commissary. In Central Falls, R.I., there was a woolen factory where uniforms were made for the Union soldiers.
His only son Charles died in the Civil War, 1865. There was a letter from "A soldier boy, to his father" in our family records, but unfortunately, it is missing.
1870 census he is living with Sarah and her two daughters.
1880 census, John and his third wife, Margaret, are living in Waterbury, Ct.
John had four brothers, including Gene Minder, whom he wrote to.
Josephine had a translated letter from Gene's widow in Alsace, 1909, all John's brothers had passed on.
Also, a picture of their two French cousins, from an earlier letter.
They were never heard from again, after WW1.
John Minder was born in Alsace Loraine, he was a native of Wassalone Bar Rine, France.
Alsace region of France is located along the German border, the two countries are separated by the Rhine River.
His family were manufactures of French ginghams in France.
He continued in this trade, as a dyer, when he came to this country, as a young man.
John had a Patent on an "Imp!in Machinery made for Dressing Thread". The` USA Patent No. 17.334 Dated 1857. He was living in Killingly, Ct. at that time with his wife, Mary Ann (Manville) and their three children.
