Avery was the younger son of Nathan (US Navy WWII Veteran, b 11-4-1921, d 3-13-1992) and Geneva Moody Knight (b 10-22-1926, d 3-2-2010). His only sibling was Perry Knight (USCG Vietnam Veteran, b 12-13-1949). He graduated from Crescent City High School and was the owner of Osprey Marine Construction in San Mateo, Florida. Avery Knight was essentially a homebody whose furthest trip from home was Jacksonville, Florida. He was also a very stubborn man who would not seek medical treatment after being warned over a year before he passed away that he had significant heart trouble. He never married, had no children and passed away from a massive heart attack.
