Civil War Records
He joined the 21st Regiment, Connecticut Volunteers, as 1st Lieutenant of Company 'G'. He was in command at the disastrous battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia on 13 December 1862. He was promoted to Captain of Company 'B' on 4th June 1863. He led his Company gallantly at the battles of Drurys Bluff, Virginia on 16 May, Cold Harbor on June 1st and 3rd, and Petersburg, Virginia on June 15th, 30th and July 30th 1864. He was mortally wounded during the siege of Petersburg, Virginia, Aug 18th 1864, while in command of the company on the picket line. He died two weeks later at the Base Hospital, 18th Army Corps, Broadway Landing, Virginia. He was born at Richmond, Rhode Island and is buried there.
