Everett Inquirer, [Friday] May 20, 1910, page 1: MRS. MASON HOWARD
Catherine Acker Howard, beloved wife of Mason Howard, died shortly after one o'clock of a complication of diseases, aged 70 years, 1 months and 17 days. She was born in Blair county Dec. 28, 1839, where she resided until 1874 when Mr. Howard and family moved to Everett.
At the age of 16 Mrs. Howard united with the Clover Creek Evangelical Lutheran church under the pastorate of Rev. John Richards, and during this period of 54 years the church knew no more devoted member. Her life was one of usefulness, her home and her church were ever dear to this good woman's heart and she died believing in the faith that has ever been her stay during life. Grandma Howard, as everybody knew her, was one of those gentle christian characters whose place will be missed in the community - a devoted wife and mother in the true sense of the word. She had been ill since last Christmas, and all that medical attention could do was secured with the hope of saving her life, but it was willed otherwise and during last week hope of her ultimate recovery was given up. The last to believe that death would eventually come was her husband who was ever hopeful that each day would bring some change for the better.
All of the children [and step-children], namely, John Howard, William H. Howard, Calvin Howard, Mrs. J. H. Appel, of Everett; Frank Howard, of Johnstown, and James Howard was at her bedside when her spirit took its flight to that better world, and although the community were aware that her days were numbered, regret of her having passed over was on everybody's lips.
The funeral took place from her late residence Wednesday afternoon, the services being conducted by her pastor, Rev. Charles D. Russell assisted by Rev. M. A. Kleifer.
The remains were carried to the last resting place by her sons. Interment in Everett Cemetery.
