Musician. Born Richard Clare Danko, he was a Canadian musician and singer, best known as a member of the legendary rock group, The Band. A charismatic artist, he played bass, violin, guitar and sang lead vocal on the group's hits such as "The Weight" and "Stage Fright." After The Band had performed its farewell concert "The Last Waltz" in 1976, Danko was the first of the group to go solo, releasing the self titled album "Rick Danko" (1977). From 1983 to 1999, Danko alternated between reformed versions of The Band, recorded three more albums and toured with Ringo Starr, Boz Scaggs, Van Morrison and former Band member Robbie Robertson. In 1994, Danko was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Band.
